Middlebury College Museum of Art
Vermont's Middlebury College Museum of Art is located at one of Vermont's educational treasures; Middlebury College. Found in Middlebury, VT. the Museum of Art is an important part of the Middlebury College experience.
The Middlebury College Museum of Art is also a great resource; an educational and art facility available to all who are interested in art and photography. The museum works closely with Middlebury College's History of Art and Architecture and Studio Art Departments to expand the educational opportunities at the college and surrounding community.
In addition to the museum's permanent collection of antiquities, paintings, photography, sculpture and contemporary art, the museum also has a variety of galleries highlighting specific periods in the art world. The Christian A. Johnson Memorial Gallery, on the second floor of the Museum, hosts various exhibits throughout the year. The permanent collection focuses on contemporary photography. But, also included are works by Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, Salvador Dali and Rembrandt.
Throughout the various galleries, visitors will find European and American art from the 17th through the 19th centuries, Flemish paintings, 19th century sculpture, Asian antiquities, Greek vases, Chinese ceramics and even a XXVI dynasty Egyptian sarcophagus.
The museum also offers tours, lectures, gallery talks, film and educational programs for local schools and the community.
